Teaching American History Program:  Project Goals

Academic Objectives for Participants

  • Acquire content knowledge through the exploration of core events, people and ideas in each historical era.
  • Develop the ability to assess and think critically about historical issues.
  • Develop skills in analyzing historical data and reaching informed conclusions.

Program Indicators

  • Teachers are more confident and competent in their American history content expertise.
  • Teachers demonstrate a high level of confidence in conducting research and analyzing resources related to traditional school districts.
  • The quality of American history curriculum content and lesson planning resources have increased in participating school district.

Project Outcome

  • Students gain a new appreciation for American History and achieve higher competence in the subject area.
  • Students experience American History using primary source information in the context of time and place.
  • Students develop intellectual skills, knowledge and application that are demonstrated through improved academic achievement.

Ultimate Goal

  • Improved/Increased student learning of traditional American History.
