- 46 women enrolled in the first class in 1895. Today the college educates 6,500 undergraduate and graduate students.
- More than a century ago, the college established the first practical arts teacher training program in the country. It has since gone high-tech, with programs in such fields as industrial, architectural, construction and engineering technology.
- Abbie Hoffman, Tom Wolfe, William Styron, Richie Havens, Robert Parker and Don McLean are among those who have visited campus.
- Fitchburg State graduate R.A. Salvatore is the author of more than 40 novels and more than a dozen New York Times best sellers, including The Two Swords, which debuted at or near the top of many best seller lists.
- College alumni have designed special effects for dozens of Hollywood films.
